About Us Katniss Everdeen from The Hunger Games fought her government to rid the poverty in her country. Tris Prior of Divergent faced the corruption in her society headstrong. Superheroes in "The Avengers" continue to save the world from the abomination that is evil. Harry Potter fought inequality and discrimination throughout his life.
If such motivational figures can exist in fiction and media, then why can't they exist in real life? LUMOS itself is a chapter of the Harry Potter Alliance (HPA), from which we get our main ideas for involvement. The video on the right gives more information about the Harry Potter Alliance. Although HPA's name suggests that we are only focused on Harry Potter parallels, our focus is actually towards all types of media and creativity that can be used to inspire. We encourage students to become the heroes of their community. Whether its making someone else's day, or advocating a global campaign, any contribution makes a difference. The beauty of our club is that we are very open ended. We love fresh ideas. Students can advocate for campaigns for which they are personally passionate, and they can create new ones too. Throughout the year, we plan to engage in activities in which students can gain community service hours, as well as experience the different ways they can impact the world. Have any ideas, questions, comments, or concerns? We'd love to hear from you! Contact us today! |
